The UCI Management Committee is meeting today and tomorrow to discuss regulation changes and dates for upcoming major events. Among the decisions made today:
1. World Championship Dates
* 2011 Indoor Cycling: Kagoshima (Japan)
* 2012 Track: Melbourne (Australia)
* 2012 BMX: Birmingham (Great Britain)
* 2010-2012 Masters Mountain Bike: Santa Catarina (Brazil)
2. Possible ProTour Races in Quebec
The Committee has reserved the dates of September 10th and 12th next year for new UCI ProTour races in Canada. The first will be in Montreal, and the second in Quebec City. We have learned that the organizers will be the Arsenault brothers (Serge and Bernard), who were behind the extremely successful Montreal World Cup in the early 1990s. The organizers have requested four year licences, which will now be reviewed by the UCI. The chances are high that these events will take place.
3. Date Changes
The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will take place March 22-28 next year, and the Amgen Tour of California was successful in their request for a change of date from February to May, with the race to take place May 16-23 next year. The AToC has also requested to be placed on the ProTour calendar starting in 2011.
4. Earpiece Ban
The Management Committee approved the banning of earpieces for the stages of the Tour de France that take place July 14 and 17th (stages 10 and 13).
5. Astana Okay
The UCI says that the financial difficulties between the Astana team and its sponsors have been sorted out.
6. No Actions Against Boonen
The UCI will not institute disciplinary actions against Tom Boonen for his alleged out-of-competition use of cocaine, after the Belgian rider supplied a number of elements in his defence.
