Kids Race for Free - and a Medal, Waterbottle and T-Shirt

Future Olympians might be found racing at the Cardinal Law Sidney Twilight Grand Prix, July 25th and the Oak Bay Bicycles Oak Bay Criterium on July 26th , but as many as 150 boys and girls will be there to get the chance to spin their wheels too on the Windsor Park course on Sunday, July 26th.

The Tim Hortons Timbit Challenge will give kids from ages five to 10 the opportunity to test their pedal mettle on Sunday, July 26 at 9:30 a.m before the Group A race at the Oak Bay Bicycles Oak Bay Criterium. Timbit challengers ride 1 lap alongside national team riders on the closed-to-traffic 900-metre crit course around Windsor Park.

“The focus for the Timbit Challenge is on fun and enjoying physical activity, but you never know if a young rider gets hooked on the wheels of the next Erinne Willock or Ryder Hesjedal,” says Jon Watkin, co-director of the weekend races.

All Participants will receive a medal, waterbottle, snack pack of Timbits, a cycling handbook, and a T-Shirt. Check in is at 8:30 a.m. at Windsor Park near the start/finish area.

There is no registration fee, but participation will be limited to the first 150 registered.  All riders will need a bicycle and properly fitting helmet.

The Oak Bay Criterium is a fund-raiser for Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock campaign. Alongside the Timbit Challenge will be other fun events for the whole family.

Pre-register by clicking on the “Timbit Challenge” button of www.sidneytwilightgp.com and registering by email. If the 150 limit is reached, a notice will be placed on the website. Registrants after the cut-off point will be contacted.
