July 25/99 7:09 am - Kabush and Dorion Take Silverstar Canada Cup

Posted by Editor on 07/25/99

Geoff Kabush came from behind to take Canada Cup number 6 - with a little assistance from team mate Peter Wedge. Our reporter Greg Flaaten says that Peter told him that the team had done some calculating last night, and figured that a really good ride by Geoff could move him up in the overall rankings. So, when Kabush (a slow starter at the best of times) began moving up in the fourth lap, series leader Wedge (who was in no danger for the title) didn't crank it while waiting. The two started the final lap together, and when Kabush punched it in the last lap, Wedge did not respond. Neil Grover also went by early second place holder Mathieu Toulouse in the last lap, to take third place. Chad Miles finished in fifth, just behind the fading Toulouse.

In the women's race there were no upsets - Melanie Dorion continued, and extended her lead over Amber chorney, to finish two minutes in the clear. Marie-Helene Premont made a late race surge to take third spot, passing both Trish Sinclair (who finished in fourth) and a fading Melanie McQaid (who dropped to 7th). Local B.C. rider Kiara Bisaro took 5th place.

Look for a full report and results later from Greg Flaaten.
