It is with great disappointment that the 2009 and fourth edition of the Burnaby Six Day along with the UCI Burnaby New Year Challenge must be postponed until a later date in 2010.
This is the second year of postponement and is due to funding issues at this time. A Sport Canada Hosting grant was applied for, for the December 28 to January 2 event, but as of October 15, 2009 there has been no guarantee of how much of the grant would be received and at what time. As the host organizer the Burnaby Velodrome Club (BVC) cannot commit financially to pushing ahead without the support of this grant.
I would like to thank the Canadian Cycling Association for their push to get this event registered as a UCI event and for giving priority and a strong recommendation in submitting the grant application on behalf of the BVC to Sport Canada. The BVC will endeavour to hold this event on a new date and continue the progression of the race from the grassroots event that was held in 2005 to the European style Six Day event of 2007
