IMBA Trail Building Weekend
Courtesy Chris LaForest

Are you ready to move beyond simply riding your local trails and learn to build them? If you are, you will be excited to learn that The County of Bruce is hosting a trail building school at the Brant Tract (near Paisley, Ontario), on the weekend of September 13th to 15th. The trail building school will be lead by Mark Schmidt and Lora Woolner, who are with the IMBA/Subaru Trail Care Crew. The workshop will begin on Friday evening and will finish up on Sunday afternoon.

Mark and Lora are professional trail builders who travel across North America on behalf of the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) and Subaru, teaching proven and effective trail building techniques.

The workshop will focus on techniques to build durable, long lasting "single track" multi-use trails that will stand up to weather and heavy traffic with minimal maintenance. Each school combines interactive learning, hands-on trail work and top-notch instructors to develop skilled trail workers and crew leaders. Topics covered include designing sustainable trails, controlling water flow, building effective trail structures, and routine trail maintenance.

If you work for an agency involved in trail construction or maintenance, or are an active trail volunteer, you should attend this workshop, as the Brant Tract trail school will be one of the few Ontario stops on the North American tour.

We will have the registration forms and detailed schedule available by next week - the cost for the entire weekend session (starting Friday night) will be $40.00. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail me at bcpllaforest@brucecounty.on.ca and I will send you a registration form and required details. For more information on the IMBA/Subaru Trail Care Crew, see the IMBA web site at www.IMBA.com
