December 31/09 12:46 pm - Cycling BC Youth Team Winter Camp - Day 3

It was a real treat for Youth Team members on the final day of the Cycling BC Youth Team camp. On schedule was an in-class session followed by a final two hour session on the boards of the Burnaby Velodrome.

Three special guests were on hand to share information and experiences. First off was young gun Cody Campbell, who rides for the Trek-Livestrong U23 Development Team. Cody shared insight on how he went from a first-time racer to being part of one of the best road cycling development teams in the world. Next up was Olympian and Track World Championships silver medalist Zach Bell (Kelly Benefit Strategies), who talked about his experiences leading up to and during the Beijing Olympics. Last up was Cycling BC Provincial Coach and National Track Coach Richard Wooles, who gave some insight on avenues that cycling can provide.

The main theme of the session was that the most important part is having fun whether it’s training, racing, or just riding!

After a quick break, riders kitted up for a great track session, including lots of sprinting and the crowd-favourite slalom course. The session ended with an introduction to track racing in the form of two scratch races.

Thank you to all the riders, parents, and volunteers who made this camp possible. If you are interested in participating, or would like more information about the Cycling BC Youth Team Program, please send an email to coach@cyclingbc.net.
