The Canadian Cycling Association (CCA) is pleased to announce the formation and membership of the first Advisory Council. John Tolkamp, President of the CCA, who lead the formation of the Council, is pleased to announce the appointment of the following members:

Steve Bauer - Former national team and pro road cyclist, Tour de France yellow jersey holder. Steve is Director of the Planet Energy cycling team and owner of Steve Bauer Bike Tours.

Erin Carter - Former national team member. Founder of the women’s Velodonnas program and recent Board Member of AthletesCAN. Erin recently finished her Masters degree in International and Intercultural Communications and is working towards earning her PhD in Education.

Kevin Cunnigham - Businessman, former Symmetrics pro team owner.

Graham Hallward - President of Alva Foundation. Graham also co-founded a group of private funders in 2006 that continues to support women's pro teams and projects.

Jim Harman - Recently retired Norco bicycles CEO.

Curt Harnett - Former national team and Olympian track cyclist . Curt recently advised on the Toronto 2015 Pan Am successful bid.

Rob Jones - Owner and editor of Canadian Cyclist.

Chantal Lachance – Co-founder of Gestev, an event management company responsible for many high profile events including Red Bull Crashed Ice, numerous MTB World Cups and the upcoming 2010 World Mountain Bike World Championships.

Linda Jackson - Former national team, Olympian and professional road cyclist. Linda is currently working in the financial industries and is a founder and director of the TIBCO women’s pro cycling team.

Axel Merckx - Former Belgium national team, Olympian and pro road cyclist. Axel is currently Team Director for Trek/Livestrong U23 team

Jay Miron - BMX athlete, X games competitor. Jay is owner MacNeil bikes

John Tolkamp – Advisory Council Chair, President of CCA, Business professional

Greg Mathieu - CCA Chief Executive Officer

Jacques Laundry - CCA Chief Technical Officer

The advisory council recently held its first meeting and covered a broad range of topics. Discussion highlights included opportunities arising from hosting the 2010 Mountain Bike World Championships and the UCI Pro Tour events in Quebec and discussing strategies to diversify and grow CCA funding.

The CCA is pleased to bring together such a notable and experienced group of advisors and wishes to express our sincere thanks for their support and commitment to advancing the sport of cycling in Canada.

The CCA Advisory Council mandate is to provide a forum for discussion and advice to the CCA Board and management in order to advance the sport of cycling in Canada. Such advice will be in the areas of understanding the environmental context of cycling in Canada, business opportunities, international developments and relationship building and other areas that come to the attention of the CCA Board and management.
