Top Pros to Compete in 2010 Union Securities Yaletown Grand Prix
European-based Canadians Svein Tuft and Christian Meier Coming to Yaletown
The Union Securities Yaletown Grand Prix is pleased to announce that two of Canada's top pro riders, Svein Tuft and Christian Meier, will be coming home to compete against the best of BC this July 1st in Vancouver's only downtown bike race. Meier, 2008 National Road Champion and Tuft, 2008 World Championship Silver Medallist, now race with the Garmin-Transitions Pro Cycling Team flying the Canadian flag at the most prestigious bike races across the World.
Recently, Svein Tuft completed the 2010 Giro D'Italia, a 3500-km 23-day race around Italy which ranks second only to the Tour de France in terms of difficulty to the Tour de France. Christian Meier spent the spring competing in the toughest one-day races in Europe, some of them up to 260km through the roads of Belgium, the Netherlands and France.
“We're very pleased that Christian and Svein are coming back to race with us this year,” said Event Director Paul Done. “Svein is a past winner of the Yaletown Grand Prix and Christian has raced here strongly. Their ride here during a training period at home will be a great chance for local BC racers to measure themselves against local guys who are now racing at the highest level in the World.”
Svein Tuft and Christian Meier will line up alongside the best bike racers in BC on Canada Day, Thursday July 1st. They'll take on technical and exciting 900-metre, 6-corner course for over an hour of high-speed racing past the loading bays and patios of Vancouver's best-known neighbourhood. Once again the Union Securities Yaletown Grand Prix is part of the BC Cup Road series that offers the best riders in BC an important developmental racing opportunity.
