This Summer, It Is Time To Pedal Against Cancer

On Saturday, August 21st, pedal for a great cause!  Support the third edition of the Pedal Against Cancer’s ride and help raise funds to support and promote the well-being of those who have been touched by cancer.

This year ride participants can select from 3 different ride lengths: 40 km, 80 km and 140 km.  To register for the ride or make a donation visit www.pedalagainstcancer.ca.  The day will start with the morning departure of the cyclists.  At the end of the ride, cyclists will be treated to food and entertainment.  Everyone is invited to join in the fun, whether you are a cyclist or not, you’re sure to have a great time.

Pedal Against Cancer 2010

The mission of Pedal Against Cancer is to help break the feeling of isolation felt by many of those who have been touched by cancer through the creation of a virtual community of hope and support.  In 2010, we continue to strive to overcome our fears and to raise funds to ensure that we have the resources necessary to help those in need.

Funds raised through the Toronto area ride will benefit Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation, a network of community based centres that provide supportive care with the goal of meeting the psychological, emotional and educational needs of cancer patients and their families.

About Pedal Against Cancer

In 2002, Patrick Murphy was diagnosed with a level 4 cutaneous melanoma with positive lymph nodes.  With the support of his family and friends, Patrick decided to fight for his life.  In the summer of 2008, to mark the 5th year of his remission, he mounted his bike in Vancouver and crossed Canada with his friend, Michel Leroux, in order to raise cancer awareness.  “In retrospect, cancer was a good experience for me as I am now able to help others.  I can give hope and support to those who are alone and struggling with this illness”, explains Patrick Murphy.  Since 2008, Pedal Against Cancer has raised more than $175,000 which has been distributed to various charities across Canada.

Pedal Against Cancer is inspired by the Dana philosophy, which means:  “act of giving of one’s self”.  Founded by Michel Leroux in 2007, this Not-for-profit organization develops projects for humanitarian causes
