Spanish rider Alberto Contador (Astana) has announced that he tested positive for Clenbuterol after a doping control on July 21st.  The Tour de France champion claims that the substance must have entered his system through contaminated food, and will hold a press conference on Thursday.

Clenbuterol (often called just "Clen") is used by athletes and bodybuilders for it's ability as a beta-2 agonist. It stimulates beta-2 receptors, which in turn help the user to lose fat by allowing the body to release and burn more stored fat.  It is also a sympathomimetic amine used by sufferers of breathing disorders as a decongestant and bronchodilator.  It causes an increase in aerobic capacity, central nervous system stimulation, and an increase in blood pressure and oxygen transportation.
