Christmas arrived early today for six Ontario Junior Cyclists who were named to the Planet Energy powered by SpiderTech Junior Cycling Team. Close on the heels of a recent announcement regarding the Quebec Junior squad; these regional development teams are endorsed by Steve Bauer, Sport Director of "SpiderTech powered by Planet Energy" professional cycling team.

The Ontario based team will be shared by 2 major sponsors of the Pro Tour team and ride under the banner of "Planet Energy powered by SpiderTech". Bryan Sheldon will provide Team Management, with coaching assistance by Tim Lefebrve and sport scientist Dr. Steven Cheung.

The first six riders committed are:

Brandon Etzl, St. Catharines
Matt Hopkins, Welland
Jason Massicotte, Scarborough
Eric Reinert, Cobourg
Travis Samuel, Peterborough
Justin Zottl, Owen Sound

The squad has been selected on their well-rounded background in road and off-road racing, provincial and national podium finishes, and a deep seated passion for cycling.

"As a team, we have a huge amount of optimism for the 2011 season," announced Sheldon, "We're well positioned with tactical expertise, motivation, and training support, to have an extremely successful opening season, not just in results but in the way we race. We looked for a team of cyclists we can trust to work together and get the job done, and we have that. Over the next few months we will be seeking two additional riders to complement the team."

The team will be participating primarily in road events, and are currently evaluating the training camp and race schedule for 2011 for provincial, national and international events.
