April 3rd in Fort St. John BC

The weather was great and there was a crowd of 22 riders for Sunday’s Beatton loop road race.

Stephen Ferris won a tough and hilly 60 Beatton Loop distance in a time of 1:53:30 hours. Les Elliott had 1:59:20 for an excellent second place finish. George Gamble 2:03:39 for third, Kevin Shaw 2:08:14, Pat Ferris 2:14:02 for 5th and Jolea Bilodeau 2:17:14 for 6th.

In the 25 km Beatton 246 loop race Pieter de Bruyn won with a time of 48:12 minutes. Ironman Dean Lowry was second at 48:45 and Quentin Dupreez 50:53 for third. Richard Moody 50:53 for 4th and August Battiston 52:24 for 5th.

Thanks to Jamie Gamble for timing!

Other 25 k times were Adam Currie 52:33 for 6th, Larry Joice 53:32, David Shoesmith 53:51, Ken Nix 54:15, Hilda Bilodeau 55:17, Rachel Kalkman 57:59, Brandon Joice 1:14:21  and Theresa Martins 1:15:48. Some of these riders have never raced before and did very well on a hilly, windy course.

In the 7.5 km distance, Tristan Bourassa had a 3:47 while Barb Polehoykie and Teagan also had 3:47 minutes.

A pack of 22 riders started out under very sunny and warm conditions. The steep Beatton Park road hills soon spread the riders out with Stephen Ferris pulling away and Les Elliott in pursuit. George Gamble and Kevin Shaw shelled Pat Ferris and Jolea Bilodeau and chased Les Elliott. Gamble eventually dropped Shaw to come in for third. It was a long, windy, hilly tough race for all.

Next Sunday: 45 km road race from Kal-Tire to Montney Store and return. A 25 km distance will also be available. www.ferrisfastcycles.com
