Blizzard Bike Club, Fort St John, BC

May 5th - Baldonnel time trial

Stephen Ferris set the fastest time on the Baldonnel time trial circuit, this season with a time of 22:53 minutes for 16 km’s. Kevin Shaw was second at 26:19 and Bob Andrews third at 26:41.

The event also had 22 riders which is the most that have turned out for the Baldonnel event in two years!

Les Elliott was 4th at 26:56, George Gamble (Taylor) 27:12, Roger St. Jean 27:13, Pat Ferris 27:28, Irvin Tang 28:51, Dean Lowry 29:46 and Simon Andrews 30:40 for the top ten times.

Other times were 11th Owen Giebelhaus 30:49, Barb Polehoykie 30:57, Jake Elliott 31:00, Richard Moody 31:05, Sam Keats 31:16, Hilda Bilodeau 34:05, Rachel Kalkman 34:40, Davide Loro 35:07, Antonio Loro 36:18 and Christine Woodruff 38:53.

Dee-Ann Stickel had 15:38 and Kelly Lapointe 41:43 for the 8 km distance.

Sunday is the King of Spring and Queen of Spring races on the Montney road circuit at 10 am. The main distance is 60 km with a shorter 25 km distance available. (pictures of past winners)

May 4th - Blizzard AGM and Elections

The Blizzard Bike Club held its 29th Annual General meeting at the Northern Lights College, Wednesday night. Attendees looked back at the 2010 – 2011 seasons’ highlights.

Season highlights include Richard Wood’s National medal, Paul Tichelaar’s triathlon seminar and yet another Challenge Cup win.

Club membership is way up, this year, to 90 members. 2011’s membership is projected to go to 110 by year’s end.

A committee was struck to look at a special event to celebrate next years’ 30th club anniversary of cycling in the North Peace.

Elections were held after the meeting with: President: Patricia Emery, Vice President’s Adam Currie and Pat Ferris, Treasurer Dawn Gladysz, Secretary Hilda Bilodeau and Directors Gord Harris, Sandy McDonald, Barb Polehoykie, Wim Kok, George Gamble, Kevin Shaw, Ken Nix, Hilda Bilodeau, Ryan Dumaresq and Bill Lindsay.

The Blizzard Bike Club has been an extraordinary success to have such a large club continuously operating in a small area population of 25,000 people on Mile 45 of the Alaska Highway in 'way Northern' BC.


May 1st - 15 Mile time trial trophy

Colter Young won the Blizzard Trophy, Sunday, for the fastest time of 36:07 minutes for 15 miles (24.2 k) . He is the 27th winner of this old trophy event.

Barb Polehoykie won the Phoenix Trophy for Women with 48:57. Kelsey Young won the Under 19 trophy with 58:51.

Kevin Shaw was second in the men’s with 41:23, Roger St. Jean third at 43:56, 4th Richard Wood 46:10, 5th Owen Giebelhaus 50:03, Richard Moody 51:03, Adam Currie 54:50 and Davide Loro 56:34,

Christina Woodruff was second fastest woman at 1:01:37 and Dian Loro third at 1:11:27. Theresa Martins was second in the Under 19 at 1:12:48.
