Redden Joins Pezzo

We have been sitting on this one for quite a while, waiting for contracts to be finalized and signed. However, it is now official: mountain bike pro Chrissy Redden has joined the Gary Fisher-Saab team. Redden has been with the Ritchey-Yahoo! team for the past couple of years, but found out in the fall that Ritchey is changing its focus to the European circuit, and could not offer her the support she needed to compete on the World Cup.

Redden joins Olympic champion Paola Pezzo, Australian Mary Grigson, fellow Canadian Ryder Hesjedal, Russian Pavel Tcherkassov and American Andy Bishop. The Pezzo/Redden/Grigson combination will be a worthy opponent to Volvo-Cannondale's Sydor/Stropparo/Epifanova trio.

National Calendar

The 2000 National calendar is now up in our Calendars section.

VeloNews Century Awards

VeloNews has released their Riders of the Century list and, to say the least, we are disappointed with some of the selections. Women's Road and Track contains no Canadians. No Linda Jackson (HP winner, top ranked North American on UCI rankings multiple times) and, even worse, no Tanya Dubnicoff (world champion, World Cup champ, 3 time Pan Am winner, etc., etc.). Of course, Karen Strong and Sylvia Burka are also missing. In Men's Track, Curt Harnett is ranked 40th (and last) - three Olympic medals and a world record gets him last?

However, one of the most inexplicable is the Mountain Bike rankings. 3-time World Champion, 3-time World Cup champion, Olympic silver medallist, Number 1 ranked Alison Sydor is ranked...11th. This becomes somewhat understandable when you see that there are 5 Americans in the top 10. Also missing is Cindy Devine, the first women's Downhill World Champion, who finished in the top 5 for the first 5 years of the Worlds.
