August 27/11 15:53 pm - PCC Head Coach Leads NOC Course in Cambodia

Posted by Editor on 08/27/11

Pacific Cycling Centre (PCC) Head Coach Houshang Amiri  recently taught a cycling course in Cambodia for the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), as part of the IOC Olympic Solidarity program. The course took place on August 9 - 18 in Phnom Penh.

This was the first time a cycling course had been held in Cambodia. Twenty six participants took part in the course, which was for Level 1 technical coaches in Road and Mountain Bike. Five national team cyclists attended along with 20 coaches, including the national team coach and the President of the Cycling Federation. Other Olympic Committee members visited the sessions during the duration of the course.

The course, which was presented in English and translated into Cambodian, was tailored to the participant level. Amiri modified the course content to accommodate the level of knowledge of the course participants.

The course also included some dynamic strength and weight training sessions and covered information on flexibility and stretching. Amiri used an indoor trainer with a road bike for demonstrating bike positioning and setup. There was continuous evaluation during the course, during group workshop sessions, and all of the coaches wrote the final exam and passed the course requirements successfully.

As a Level 4/5 Master Coach, Amiri is in demand to teach cycling courses to countries in need of support. Olympic Solidarity's aim is to assist all NOC's to develop the structure and programs needed to further develop their sport.

"I am proud as a Canadian to work with coaches from other National Teams and assisting them in taking cycling to the next level," sais Amiri. "UCI and Olympic Solidarity offer valuable support to countries where programs are not available."
