Tour de Snowy, Australia

The latest report from National Team Coach Jacques Landry.

After yesterday's stage and Geneviève breaking up the field, the work today was fairly simple really.

With Tracy Gaudry (Timex) being the only rider within serious reach of Geneviève at 1min30 there was only her to watch closely.

Being a relatively easy stage it was obvious riders would get up the road, namely the Dutch who are going for stages here. After 15 kms of racing all moves were being covered by the Canadians and eventually a half dozen women got up the road with Anne Samplonious along for the ride.

At that point and time, the break was gaining a lot of terrain with the pack not very hasty to respond, what there being nobody important for GC up in the break.

As the direction of the wind was changing, the Dutch riders were trying to break things up in the main group but to no avail.

Meanwhile in the front group, riders were starting to not co-operate and the gap that was once up to 4 minutes was now staying even.

With 20 to go, the Timex team was getting nervous and decided to start bringing the break back a touch.

At the finish line Myriam Melchers would take the win by attacking the break on the last climb at a km to go and Anne finished up 6th at a few seconds.

The pack with Geneviève and Tracy rolled in at 2min30 down. No big deal!!!

Tomorrow should be interesting with a short morning stage of around 34 kms that mainly goes uphill. More fun to come....
