Registration is now open for the fifth annual Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour, a 730 kilometre supported end-to-end cycling tour of the Ontario waterfront and greenways, passing through 41 Ontario communities in seven days. The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour launches this year on Saturday, July 14th, and is themed as a Heritage Ride, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, with cyclists travelling from Niagara-on-the-Lake in the west to the Quebec border in the east.  Throughout the eight-day event, cyclists will camp in two forts and cycle by and visit numerous heritage features highlighted by local heritage experts.

Organized by the Waterfront Regeneration Trust, a charity, and over 50 waterfront partners, including local municipalities, conservation authorities and community groups, the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure will showcase waterfront communities such as overnight hosts Niagara-on-the-Lake, Hamilton, Toronto’s Fort York, Oshawa, Trenton, Amherstview, Prescott, Cornwall and South Glengarry. The cyclists will see vibrant communities and beautiful parks, experience delicious local food and entertainment, learn fascinating history, visit coastal wetlands, forests and beaches, and enjoy charming shops and unique local businesses.  Visit www.waterfronttrail.org to view the map and for a complete listing of events to date in each community.

The Honorary Tour Director this year is Councillor Jennifer Wyman from the Town of Prescott. The Honorary Tour Director represents the partnership of communities that has made the Waterfront Trail possible. The founding corporate partner for the Waterfront Trail and the GWTA is the CIBC, which has generously supported the project since 1996.

Registration for 2012 is now open and is limited to 150 end-to-end entrants. The Adventure sells out every year and has been rated by participants as an outstanding cycling holiday.  Registration fees apply, based on the number of riding days. Visit www.waterfronttrail.org or call (416) 943-8080.
