Welocome to our coverage of the Women's XC race from Belgium

 

It is a cold, grey day, with the temperature in the single digits, with a pretty good breeze blowing.  So far no rain, but the air is damp. ...

 

There is a large field on the start for today's race of a start loop and 4   5  full laps of the 4.7 km course

 

Start Loop

Fast start and it is Annie Last (Milka Brentjens MTB Racing Team) leading up the climb on the start loop followed by Emily Batty (Subaru - Trek).

 

Pauline Ferrand Prevot (Rabobank Giant Offroad Team) had the early lead around the loop

 

As they head to the end of the start loop it is a group starting to form a the front.

Julie Bresset (BH - SR Suntour - Peisey Vallandry),  followed by Emily Batty (Subaru - Trek), Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team), Sabine Spitz (Sabine Spitz Haibike Team), Last

 

The difficulty of the course is really starting to stretch out the field.

Bresset, Pendrel and Batty  have opened up a gap at the front with a chase group of 4 lead by Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team)

Julie Bresset (BH - SR Suntour - Peisey Vallandry) followed by Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team), Emily Batty (Subaru - Trek), Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team), Blaza Klemencic (Felt Oetztal X - Bionic Team), Sabine Spitz (Sabine Spitz Haibike Team) at 10 sec

Maja Wloszczowska (CCC Polkowice) at 11 sec

Lea Davison (Specialized Racing) 15th at 44 sec

Georgia Gould (Luna Pro Team) 19th at 16 sec

Marie-Helene Premont (Rocky Mountain) 25th at 1:01

Bresset and Pendrel are now off the front

Nash leading Klemencic are sitting 3 and 4, then a group of 4 at 35 sec lead by Prevot with Batty, Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa (Multivan Merida Biking Team) and Maja Wloszczowska (CCC Polkowice)

1/2 way around the first lap

Breset leading with a gap of 11 sec on Pendrel

Nash 3rd at 27 sec folowed by Klemencic

Group of 4 at 33 sec: Dahle, Batty 36 sec, Wloszczowska , Irina Kalentieva (Topeak Ergon Racing Team) both at 38 sec

 

5:58 am Nash has a technical and is running to the tech zone

 

6:02 am

Through the Tech zone with Bresset leading Pendrel by 7 sec

Wloszczowska and Klemencic at 38 sec

 

Lap 2

Starting the 2nd lap Bresset leading with Pendrel sitting 2nd at 7 sec. 

Wloszczowska at 39 sec, Klemencic 4th at 40 sec, Ferrand Prevot 5th at 41 sec

Batty 6th,  Kalentieva 7th both at 1 min

Gould 12th at 1:41

Dahl Flesja 14th at 1:44

Davidson 16th at 2:07

Bresset and Pendrel are together, with Pendrel leading up the climb

Wloszczowska, Klemencic and Ferrand Prevot stil all together battling it out for 3rd spot

Leaders still together with Pendrel leading as they head to the end of the lap

Batty leading a chase group pf 4 at 1:15

Heading out onto the 3rd lap and Pendrel and Bresset are still together

3rd is Maja Wloszczowska at 1:01, Ferrand Prevot 4th at 1:02, Klemencic 5th at 1:03

Batty 6th at 1:15, Katrin Leumann (Ghost Factory Racing Team) 7th, Kalentieva 8th, Eva Lechner (Colnago Sudtirol) 9th at 1:18

Pendrel has a gap of 11 sec on Bresset

Wloszczowska has also dropped her group and has a 5 sec gap

Heading out onto the final lap,  lap 5 of 5 Pendrel's  gap to Bresset is 16 sec. Wloszczowska 3rd at 1:05, Klemencic 4th at 1:12

Ferrand Prevot 5th at s.t., Lechner 6th at 1:34, Kalenetieva 7th at s.t.

Batty 8th at 1:38, Leumann 9th at 2:02

Premont 17th at 3:17

Pendrel's gap is now 22 sec

Gap to chase group of 3: Wloszczowska, Klemencic and Ferrand Prevot is 1:12

Heading to the end of the lap and the gap from Pendrel to Bresset is holding at 22 sec

Pendrel on final descent heading to the finish

 

Pendrel wins Houffalize and should take over the lead in the World Cup if  Wloszczowska finishes 3rd
