Results from the first stage, a 4.022 km ITT, of the Joe Martin Stage Race in Fayettville, Arkansas

Women's report byTeam TIBCO

Team TIBCO Olympic long team member Amanda Miller won today’s time trial in the first stage of the Joe Martin Stage Race in Arkansas. Her winning time of 9:59 minutes established her as the general classification race leader and puts the Team in position to stay on top of the overall NRC team standings. Teammates Lauren Hall and Jennifer Wheeler also exhibited their good form in the uphill time trial, taking 9th and 12th place respectively.

“Amanda did an incredible job today,” said Team TIBCO European directeur sportif Angela van Smoorenburg. “She set herself apart from the competition and is now in position to contend for overall GC victory.”

The Team will rally behind their race leader over the next few days, doing whatever possible to keep Miller in the leader’s jersey. Time bonuses will be essential in maintaining Miller’s race lead. The Team will need to stay organized and unified as they aim to take control of tomorrow’s road race and keep Miller in GC contention.

Miller will be joined by all-rounders Wheeler, Hall and Jennifer Purcell, as well as sprinters Samantha Schneider and Kendall Ryan. Racing veteran Meredith Miller will provide on-the-road tactical strategy to the seven-rider squad as they navigate two road races and a criterium in the following days.

Tomorrow, the riders head out for 64 miles of rolling roads, climbing over 3,500 feet. The final 350 meters will kick up to 6 percent and could create an interesting race outcome. Saturday’s road race will send the riders around a 23-mile loop with 1,500 feet of climbing each lap for a total of 63 miles, while Sunday’s criterium concludes the stage race.
