Team Canada brings home eight track medals, then adds 2 more in Time Trial and Road Race

The Canadian contingent rose to the challenge on the final day of track racing (Friday) in Guatemala City, scoring 4 medals.  On Saturday a TT medal was added and then again on Sunday in the Road races.  Bringing the total medals for Team Canada during the 2012 Junior Pan Am Championships in Guatemala to 10.

Aiden Caves, mounted a charge in the Men's Omnium and won the Bronze medal leaping over 4 competitors after a disappointing first day.  The final 3 events were outstanding and Caves was very happy with his performance.

Kinley Gibson, continued her strong racing and took home another medal (Bronze) after the 6 events of the women's Omnium.

Sarah Mason, attacked during the Scratch race and with 2 other nations lapped the field on her way to a Silver medal.

The last event on Friday was the women's Keirin. It was like a marathon, 3 restarts, 2 DQ's (Sarah Mason) (a Columbian), 1 protest (Columbia), and a team (Columbia) withdrawing from the event..... Oh, by the way Audrey Labrie, scored a well deserved Bronze.

Saturday was the mens' and Women's TT, Kinley Gibson had the ride of her life, stopping the clock with the third quickest time and took home the Bronze Medal.

Sunday morning the 64km women's road race took place with Erica Varela (Mexico) winning by 4 minutes.  In the group sprint to the finish, Audrey Labrie who was well positioned all day sprinted for the line and took home the Silver medal by 2 bike lengths.

In the men's road race Canada's lone entrant was Will Simonds (London) who finished the race 13 minutes down on the winner Jose Aguirre (Mexico).  A gutsy effort for the young 1st year Junior.

The Canadian Team will have an authentic feast of local foods  this evening.  This will be a fine ending to an outstanding Project (learning experience) for our young Canadian Athletes.

Final recap next week.
