The CBC Sports announced today that on their online poll for Canadian Athlete of the Year voters had picked soccer star Christine Sinclair ahead of Giro winner Ryder Hesjedal for the award. According to CBC Sports, Sinclair totalled 63,230 votes to Ryder Hesjedal's 53,813. It was clearly a two-way battle, with the next best candidates - ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir - only receiving 8,177 votes. Other athletes on the ballot were trampolinist Rosie MacLennan (5,913); figure skater Patrick Chan (4,134); and bobsledder Kaillie Humphries (1,267). For more on the story, visit CBC Sports.
