March 8/13 12:59 pm - Ontario's Best Road Cyclists Coming to Ancaster for Annual Good Friday RR

Posted by Editoress on 03/8/13

Three weeks from today, hundreds of road cyclists from across Ontario will test themselves on a new course in Ancaster for the 61st Good Friday Road Race.

Hamilton Cycling Club is thrilled to host the race on Friday, March 29th, for some of Canada's best amateur cyclists. Riders cover the fast 15.9 kilometre course multiple times, depending on their category, as they battle the wind and their rivals on the rural roads of Ancaster. The race has its start and finish line in Ancaster Fairgrounds.

Find a map of the course, an event schedule and learn more about the race online here.

Online registration via the OCA is available HERE

Race categories set off in waves at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The first wave will finish at 10 a.m., and the elite racers will finish about 4 p.m. at Ancaster Fairgrounds.

In its 61 years, the race has seen many changes. We have had big purses, small purses, routes in and out of Hamilton, and the race has even been named after our former lead sponsor, the Hamilton Spectator. Former winners and racers include Olympians such as Brian Chewter, Adrian Prosser, Sue Palmer-Komar and many more. Our president Wayne Atanas is a great club historian, and would be happy to fill you in about the past.

The race, sanctioned by the Ontario Cycling Association (OCA), uses a new course in Ancaster that will be of great interest to Ontario's passionate cycling community. Food and drinks will be provided by some of the Hamilton area's most delicious food trucks.
