The 2013 Canadian Downhill Mountain Bike Championships will take place this coming weekend, on July 13th and 14th at the Panorama Mountain Resort in Panorama, BC, featuring cyclists in Junior and Elite categories.  The event is expected to attract some of the best downhillers in the country, including world #3 ranked Steve Smith (Devinci Global Racing), racing his first Nationals since he won as a Junior.  The two reigning Canadian Champions are Matthew Beer and world #9-ranked Casey Brown.

This will be the third time in the last four summers the resort has held the Downhill National Championships, where riders will compete for the sought-after Red and White Jersey awarded to each Canadian Champion.

"This year's event will be bigger and better than last year's Canada Cup. We want to make Panorama's Downhill Mountain Bike Championships a must do for the best downhill mountain bikers in Canada. We have an outstanding venue here and are improving our trails every year," said Patrick Gillespie, Panorama's Race and Mountain Events Manager.

Racing will be held in the Panorama Bike Park, using the Insanity Bike Run.

The event starts Saturday with the qualifying races and concludes on Sunday with the Championships races.

On-site Registration will remain open until Friday, July 12th (18h00 Mountain Time), at the race office.

"The Panorama Mountain Resort is a synonym for downhill racing in Canada. They have hosted this event in the past, as well as some Canada Cup races, and we are thrilled to work with this group once more," said Mathieu Boucher, Performance Development Director at Cycling Canada.
