Track World Cup #2 - Cali, Columbia

National coach Kurt Innes has sent in a report from the second session (first day evening) of the Track World Cup in Cali, Columbia.

Okay , starting off with a disclaimer.. I am super groggy this morning so anything I write may not be too coherent!

Last night's racing here in Cali was .... incredible.

Lori Ann (Muenzer) is sprinting like a pro, made it thru the quarter finals in 2 straight against a very tough Fiona Ramage of New Zealand. She races Lyndelle Higginson from Australia tonite in semi finals. This will be incredibly hard , but she has chance if she rides like tonite.

The men's kilo was awesome. 12 riders under 1.05.0 !!!

A new french guy won with 1.02.8 - his name is Arnaund Duble. Then Shane Kelly with 1.03.0, then South Africa with 1.03.0, then the 1.04 times started. Doug (Baron) ended up 11 th with 1.04.8 ! Super good time for him , new personal best by 0.7 of a second !! He missed out on world cup points by less than .01 !!

Jimmy (Fisher) rode out of competition, and would have placed 7th, his time of 1.04.4 is over a second better than his personal best. Absolutely perfect rides by both Canadian kilo guys, really competitive with the rest of the worlds best. Only 1 .4 seconds out of the medals and really, really solid by both riders.

Lori Ann, Jimmy and Doug all rode like pros, they looked so smooth and fast on their new Look bikes! Jim and Doug were also fully decked out in Mavic race wheels.....

Things are really happenin....

Mandy (Poitras) is this morning (Saturday) in the pursuit qualifier, then Lori Ann tonite in semi and finals for sprint.

Tomorrow we have a huge day. Mens Olympic Sprint with Lars (Madsen), Jim and Doug, then Kyle Hudson in the Keiren, Lori Ann in the 500M (with Mandy doing an out of competition ride in the 500M), and Mandy doing the Points Race.

more later,
Kurt

More news from Mandy Poitras (via Jeremy Storie) about yesterday's first round women's Match Sprint.

Lyndelle Higginson (Aus) won the 200m qualif with Tanya Lindenmuth (USA) 2nd and Michelle Ferris (Aus) 3rd. Ferris was beaten by Nancy Contrares (Mex) in the first ride and had to go to the reps with an Italian and a Cuban. The Cuban went from the gun in the reps and Ferris didn't chase and let a huge gap open, thinking she could close it in a lap. However, the bell went for 1 lap to go with the Cuban was still quite far up ahead, and Ferris didn't even seem to try and with a 1/2 lap to go just packed it in. Quite the upset.
