Green and Neil win at Mt Tolmie RR

Sara Neil used her years of racing experience to "read" and win the Mt Tolmie road race. "Physical Culture worked the pack over really good, sending lots of attacks off. But I knew that the 2nd time up the hill that I could attack and get away." said a hardly out of breath Neil just after the finish of the women's 100 km race.

The men's race was a bit more of a guessing game. The 3 riders who went away early, had a gap of nearly 6 minutes entering the finishing circuit (10 laps). But even a gap this big is no guarantee when a determined group of chasers make their move.

"At the 60 km mark when they went I tried to get a chase group to work. It was raining and no one seemed to be able to get organized, so I I decided to sit in, see how it played out and at the very least have a great training ride" said winner Roland Green. "With 10 laps to go and a 6 minute gap to make up, a group of 8 started to go hard, we made up a lot of time really quickly - over 2 minutes on one lap alone." The 3 leaders were soon caught. "With 3 laps to go the group went hard on the hill and lost 3 riders. We stayed together until the last lap. I went really hard on the climb and dropped everyone and took the win."

Roland was happy to win in front of a home town crowd. "Everyone is here today to watch my win,... my Grandma, Mom and Dad."
