January 6/14 16:17 pm - Cycling Most Tested Sport by CCES in July-Sept 2013

Posted by Editoress on 01/6/14

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) has released domestic doping control figures for the period July-September of last year (the second Quarter of CCES's fiscal year), and cycling was the the most tested sport during that time. The period included the Mountain Bike and Track Nationals, Mont Ste Anne World Cup, Para Worlds and World Cup, the Tour of Alberta and the WorldTour races in Quebec and Montreal. During the period the CCES also provided Fee-for-service testing, but did not break those numbers down by sport.

A total of 624 urine tests and 99 blood tests were conducting during the period; both in and out of competition. Cycling (including Para) had 80 urine tests and 17 blood tests; 97 in total. Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) was second with 77 (all urine), followed by Hockey (57 - all urine).

Breaking down the cycling tests:

• 56 In-competition urine (3 of which were Para)
• 13 In-competition blood (all non-Para)
• 24 Out-of-Competition urine (all non-Para)
• 4 Out-of-Competition blood (all non-Para)

The full breakdown can be downloaded Here.
