January 31/14 11:57 am - Federal Government Funds Sport Participation & Healthy Living in Canada

Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), has announced funding of up to $614,000 to Canadian Sport For Life (CS4L) for the advancement of sport participation and healthy living on the occasion of the CS4L National Summit. The Summit is being held in Gatineau on January 29 and 30, 2014.

"Today's funding announcement clearly demonstrates that we are committed to working together with organizations such as Canadian Sport for Life toward a common goal. Sport participation and active living are important elements in keeping our communities and children healthy and active." - Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport)

• Canadian Sport for Life is a movement to improve the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. CS4L links sport, education, recreation, and health; it also aligns community, provincial, and national programming.

• The CS4L National Summit brings together leaders who work to enhance the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. It is an annual gathering of the sport community to learn about and discuss Long-Term Athlete Development and strengthening the Canadian sport system.

• Long-Term Athlete Development is a seven-stage training, competition and recovery pathway guiding an individual's experience in sport and physical activity from infancy through all phases of adulthood.
