June 16/14 10:34 am - Lake to Lake 29er report and results

Posted by Editoress on 06/16/14

The 16th edition of the Giant Bicycles Lake to Lake 29er mountain bike race blasted off yesterday under sunny skies in Niagara.  Close to 300 participants enjoyed a brand new mountain bike course that began at Brock University and finished up on the beaches of Lake Ontario at Charles Daley Park in Lincoln.

The new point-to=point course took in the feared Hydro Hill before looping around some great single-track on the 12-mle creek before heading North to Lake Ontario through farm lanes and vineyards.

Hometown boy Alex Schmidt (HoneyMaxx) rode away from defending champion Corey Brioschi of Bolton who experienced a "nasty" fall on the slick singletrack.  Brioschi would eventually finish in third place as Eric Jobin of London beat him to the line in a three way sprint for second, with Alex Lefebvre of Guelph in fourth.

On the womens side Ashley Barson (CoachChris-Ted Velikonja) of Bolton took a convincing win over Melanie Bernier of London and Karen Krujic of Paris.  With a beach setting, catered meal, Giant bicycle give-aways, those who braved the trails were treated to an extraordinary day of riding.

Lake to Lake Events Inc. would like to thank some exceptional help, Ziggys Cycle and Fitness, Inception Cycle, HoneyMaxx, AutoFX, and of course Giant Bicycles for making it all happen.
