August 23/14 10:39 am - Tuft & The Cyclery Supply New Bike to Cataford

Ottawa cyclist Alex Cataford has been given a helping hand by Tour de France professional Svein Tuft.

Cataford is still recovering from the injuries he suffered in a serious collision with a car while training in Tucson, Arizona earlier this year, and was recently given the green light to resume training. But his bike was destroyed in the crash and he didn't have a replacement, so he was training on borrowed equipment.

When Tuft heard of Cataford's predicament, he reached out and offered to help. Each year, Tuft donates money to the B.C.-based Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund, and he requested that part of this year's donation go towards Cataford.

The Cyclery stepped in with a generous discount and Cataford is now rolling on a new Scott Foil, the same machine Tuft rides with his Orica-GreenEDGE professional team. It was a classy gesture from Tuft, who is in the middle of a busy 2014 season that has included the Giro d’Italia (where he wore the pink leader's jersey after the first stage), the Tour de France and the Commonwealth Games.

Cataford is now hard at work training towards his competition comeback in 2015.
