Biking and sports enthusiasts, visitors, and local businesses will get together for the Burnaby Velodrome 4 Day Bike Race, on December 27 - 30. This event is another chapter in this increasingly popular sports centre's 17-year history.

Velodrome head coach Kelyn Akuna, said "If you like fast action and top competition, and want to try something new, come out to our 4 Day Race. You're sure to have a good time! There will be food trucks, a craft beer festival, and activities for kids."

Sponsored by the Burnaby Velodrome Club, the Burnaby 4 Day Bike Race starts on December 27th at 7pm. Admission for adults is only $5 per day.

International Olympic athletes and Tour de France contenders will join local and national stars for four days of energetic racing action. They'll be riding in event types that range from fast and furious match sprints, reaching speeds up to 65 km per hour, to challenging endurance and points races. There will be food trucks on-site, as well as a craft beer festival, music from local bands, events for children, and a bicycle swap meet.

Young riders can get in on the action too. In the morning they'll have a chance to hone their skills at a youth training camp before racing in the afternoon to see the international champions of tomorrow!

"Races at the Velodrome are special," said Akuna. "Most important, they are inside! The audience can always see the riders. And it's fast! Racers cannot ride slower than 30 km per hour, because of the track's bowl-like shape, banked to 47 degrees in the corners."

The 4Day Bike Race caps the year in which the velodrome has welcomed Canada's top youth riders for the National Championship as well as visiting athletes from BC, Washington State and Oregon for their Feature Friday Night Races.

The Burnaby Velodrome Club at the Harry Jerome Sports Centre, 7564 Barnet Highway, operates one of only two indoor cycling tracks in Canada and one of the fastest in North America. The track is open year-round for training and racing. Introductory, intermediate, and advanced programs happen every week.
