Canada opened the four days of track racing in the Pan Am Games with double gold in the men's and women's Team Sprint events at the Cisco velodrome in Milton. Hugo Barrette, Evan Carey and Joseph Veloce were the first gold medal winners, defeating Venezuela in the final with a time of 44.241. Later in the evening Kate O'Brien and Monique Sullivan defeated Cuba to earn Canada's second gold of the day.
In other competition, Canada qualified first in the women's Team Pursuit, and will go up against the USA on Friday night for gold. The first three events of the men's Omnium saw Gideoni Rodrigues Monteiro (Brazil) take the lead at the halfway point with second places in all three events. World champion Fernando Gaviria Rendon (Colombia) is second in the standings, while Canada's Remi Pelletier Roy sits fifth.
