This is an eight (8) month Contract position, from April to November 2016.
The NextGen Track & Road Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the delivery of NextGen Track and Road Performance programs primarily with additional responsibility for development programs. The NextGen Track & Road Coordinator will partner with the NextGen coaches to support the High Performance objectives and delivery of the approved quadrennial plan and annual High Performance plan as defined by the High Performance Director. The NextGen Track & Road Coordinator will give technical assistance to the Track Coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of all Track and Road programs. This position is based at the national office in Ottawa, Ontario.
Cycling Canada (CC) is the recognized authority by the UCI (Union Cycliste International) on all aspects of cycling in Canada, including BMX, Cyclo-cross, Mountain Bike, Para-Cycling, Road and Track. All staff is employed by CC to facilitate achievements of its long term vision and planned annual targets. All personnel are required to operate within the policies and procedures as established by the Association's Board of Directors and are expected to act consistently with the Association's values.
Cycling Canada receives financial contributions from the federal government and other agencies, organizations and corporate sponsors, and is accountable for the disbursement and reporting of funds according to the contracted terms and conditions.
Programs, activities and services are operated within the limitations established in an annual operating budget approved by the Board of Directors. CC staff is responsible to manage and administer the association's finances and provide administrative support for all Association activity.
The NextGen Track & Road Coordinator, in consultation with the High Performance Manager (HPM) and the Track Coordinator has sufficient authority to take measures that are necessary in the daily operation of the Track and Road programs within the bounds of approved policy and the annual operating budget for these programs. Beyond these limits the NextGen Track & Road Coordinator is required to have decisions approved by the High Performance Manager.
The NextGen Track & Road Coordinator reports to the High Performance Manager on matters related to the National Team and high performance program delivery, and reports to the Pathway NextGen Manager on matters related to the alignment of Cycling's NextGen programs.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• In support to the National NextGen Women's and Men's Track Endurance & Road Coaches, coordinate the planning and execution of all logistical arrangements (Staffing, travel, accommodation, equipment, entries, etc.) for the Cycling Canada supported NextGen track and road program training camps and international competitions for athletes, coaches and Integrated Support Team (IST) members.
• Ensure up to date NextGen track and Road program financial monitoring (Competition, Training, Equipment and IST) with tools provided by the High Performance Manager. Provide continuous feedback to coaches on project costs against planned budget and their overall program budget status.
• Invoice self-funded athletes for projects in a timely manner ensuring that their payment is secured prior to the project.
• Ensure that all Track and Road NextGen selection and maintenance criteria are aligned with other Cycling NextGen programs (I.e. BMX, Mountain Bike and Para-Cycling)
• Assemble and distribute all Track National Team training plans and schedules to appropriate stakeholders
• Assist the High Performance Manager and NextGen Coaches in the development and implementation of selection policies and AAP carding criteria
• Act as team manager for designated projects as requested by the High Performance Manager
• Assist with program orientation of National Team athletes entering the program for the first time
• Ensure the delivery of clothing and equipment from the national office to the coaches and team members in a timely manner and provide guidelines on sponsor requirements for use of clothing. Keep an accurate inventory of Cycling Canada equipment provided to NT members and to the programs.
• Work with NextGen coaches and associate coaches to ensure that all Cycling Canada policies are adhered to and respected
• In consultation with the High Performance Manager, program coaches and teams mechanics, purchase equipment for the NextGen programs within the allocated budget.
• Liaise with the UCI (e.g. Trade team registration; participants, calendars, World Cup and World Championship registration)
• Liaise with race organizers to ensure team entries
• Liaise with P/T counterparts to ensure proper P/T integration with Cycling Canada programs
• Ensure optimal Track NextGen program information content on Cycling Canada's website and social media accounts
• Upon request of either Track Coordinator or the High Performance Manager, assist the Track Coordinator with any duties pertaining to the optimal running of the Track Sprint and Women's Track Endurance programs.
The NextGen Track & Road Coordinator will be required to travel on occasion and upon HPM request to domestic and international events.
On an annual basis the NextGen Track & Road Coordinator will be expected to accomplish specific end results, the satisfactory fulfillment of job responsibilities and attainment of required level of ability in key competency areas. These three (3) components will form the basis of an annual performance review conducted by the High Performance Manager.
Knowledge and Skills
CC is looking for bilingual candidates that have general knowledge of the Canadian sport system and specific knowledge in the cycling sports and/or Track and Road discipline specific knowledge. The position calls for superior planning, financial monitoring and reporting, logistical and communication skills. The NextGen Track and Road Program Coordinator needs to have multi-tasking and organizational skills.
Candidates will be expected to be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint). Knowledge of budget development, implementation and monitoring will be considered a key asset.
A post secondary education with a degree in sport administration or business administration would be an asset.
In addition, the following skills, knowledge or experience will be considered assets:
• The ability to work with coaches and athletes
• Knowledge and experience delivering programs and activities
• Travel and/or project planning
• The ability to create documents supporting the programs
Salary & Benefits
The salary for the position is based on $ 45,000 per annum adjusted to the period of work required. There are no benefits for this contract position.
