The board of directors of Cycling BC is now in the process of actively recruiting candidates to take on the role of Executive Director in the new year.

Cycling BC is the provincial governing body for the sport of cycling in British Columbia, representing the full range of disciplines including Road, Track, Cyclo-cross, Mountain Biking, BMX and Para-cycling. Our mission is to foster quality competition, from the grassroots through to high performance levels, and encourage partnerships to grow participation in the sport of cycling.


The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the society. Primary activities include leading the strategic plans to guide the annual business activities, enhancing relationships with stakeholders, creating positive financial outcomes and providing direction to the team responsible for delivering programs . Creating an engaging, collaborative and transparent environment is critical to the success of the position and the organisation, as is the ability to assess requirements and resources in a timely manner while anticipating issues and coordinating delivery of services. The Executive Director should also be a skilled presenter, effective ambassador and confident spokesperson for the organisation.


The Executive Director reports directly to the Chair, Board of Directors and submits monthly reports to the Board. The ED works in close collaboration with the Senior Director of Sport Development and the Finance Manager to ensure strategic plans and applicable budgets are in place . Direct management of the Communications and Membership Coordinator ensures public communications and activities accurately reflect the organisation's brand, values and goals. The Event Coordinator also reports directly to the ED and requires guidance to increase the executional excellence and ability to monetize the various events. Leadership and interaction with all team members is required to engage, inspire and motivate the team for success.


1. Board of Directors:
• Regular contact with the Chair
• Regular meetings and updates as required
• Monthly attendance at Board meetings
• Dissemination of Board activities to the team

2 . Business Activities:
• Strategic development of communications, revenue, stakeholder, athletes and officials, member services and youth plans on an annual basis
• Development of long term and annual business plans
• Relationship management with key stakeholders
• Implementation of progressive governance practices
• Oversee and manage ongoing filing requirements
• Maintenance of insurance and risk management programs
• Provision of membership services in cost effective manner while creating additional value for members
• Creation and promotion of programs to increase membership
• Supervise all human resource aspects of the organisation (recruitment, role development, contracting, succession, etc.)

3. Financial (working collaboratively with the Financial Manager)
• Maintain financial control over the organisation
• Draft annual budgets and cash flows
• Report actuals versus budgeted on a monthly basis
• Complete annual audits
• Investigate, develop and maintain funding sources and relationships (Government, Sponsors, Donors) to maximize resources

4. Sport (working collaboratively with the Director of Sport Development)
• Liaise with cycling and sport organisations at national and provincial levels
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key government sport organisations
• Oversee the streaming program to inspire youth and develop high performance athletes
• Supervise strategic aspects of athlete and team development programs
• Build relationships with event organisers, sanction events and place officials where appropriate
• Guide programs for the development of sport officials and coaches
• Establish process to determine and communicate competition calendar
• Develop and maintain provincial championships


Education and Experience
• A degree or diploma from a recognized post secondary institution in a related field
• 5 years + in a similar senior sport leadership role
• Track record of growing and managing an organisation
• Must have previous experience in working with a Board
• Fluency in English is required including oral, written and public presentation skills in English
• Fluency in French is preferred

Professional Abilities
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with government, corporate and sport partners
• Understanding of business planning, organizational management and community relations
• Understanding of cycling activities and competitions
• Experience with the development of a brand
• Previous experience working in a fast-paced, multi-level, sport based environment with emphasis on timelines and delivery
• Proven capacity to fit within a not-for-profit culture and show leadership in terms of workplace standards, drafting of policies and development of agreements

Special Skills and Abilities
• Tactical planning is required to achieve targets within established framework
• Excellent oral, written and communication skills
• Strong negotiation and presentation skills
• Proven ability to make critical decisions independently without supervision and inspire co-workers to do the same
• Ability to work closely, cooperatively and build relationships with internal and external associates
• Excellent organization, time-management, administrative and computer skills essential
• Attention to detail and a strong customer service focus are essential
