Quintana climbs to race lead
Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) found himself in the Maglia Rosa again three years after he was victorious in the first Giro d’Italia he contested, winning stage 9 today atop the Blockhaus. He soloed away in the last 5km and maintained an advantage of more than 20 seconds over Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) and Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb). The Dutchman is in a potentially strong position with a deficit of just 30 seconds ahead of Tuesday’s individual time trial from, the Sagnatino Stage from Foligno to Montefalco (39.8km).
Michael Woods (Cannondale-Drapac) finished 33rd at 6:50 back and now sits 22nd in GC at 8:26 back.
