Team Canada's Riley Pickrell was second in the Challenge Sprint Abitibi, the traditional opening event to the Tour de l'Abitibi which is celebrating its 51st edition this week.
Rouyn-Noranda plays host to the Tour this year, and the Challenge has riders race a short course in heats of four, with the top two moving on to the next round, until the final four race for the win.
Pickrell, winner of three stages in last year's race, won all of his preliminary heats to advance to Final, where he finished second to American Lucas Bourgoyne. Fabien Selivert of France was third, and Luke Lamperti of the United States fourth.
Team Canada manager Kevin Field commented, "It was a tactical final heat. USA had two riders and Lamperti played it well to set up Bourgouyne. Once Lucas got the jump on Riley it was going to be hard for him to come back ... "
