Canada won its first cycling medal on Thursday evening at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru, with a silver medal in the women's Team Sprint.  Amelia Walsh and Kelsey Mitchell finished with a time of 34.096, but it was not good enough to beat the Mexican team, who set a Pan Am record of 33.424, beating the previous record set by Canada at the 2015 Games.

"For the conditions of the track it wasn't a bad ride for us as a team, and I'm quite proud of it," said Walsh.  "It's really cold in here and hard to stay warm, but everyone's the same."

"I'm pretty excited," said Mitchell.  "I was hoping to get on the podium with the Team Sprint.  Obviously, we wanted the gold, but I'm pretty happy with the silver.  The conditions were pretty slow but we ended up doing a personal best."

In the women's Team Pursuit, Canada won their first round heat, and will race against the USA tomorrow evening for the Gold medal, guaranteeing them at least a silver.

"We executed really well and then it was just about riding really well and how we expended our energy," said Maggie Coles-Lyster.  "The second ride was definitely better than the first one, technically and speed wise.  The second ride felt easier.  That's exactly what we need to show tomorrow - calm, confident and execute our ride."
