Hoof and Mouth May Hit World Cup

We spoke with UCI Technical Delegate Christophe Burri about the possibility of mountain bike World Cup cancellations in Europe due to the Hoof and Mouth epidemic. The first World Cup likely to be affected would be Houffalize in Belgium (XC#3 - May 19-20), since Hoof and Mouth has been found next door in Holland.

According to Christophe, at this time there are no recorded cases of Hoof and Mouth in Belgium, so everything is a go. If the disease does appear, then the UCI will take their cue from the national government and national cycling federation: :If it's a decision made by NF (national federation) to cancel an event, the UCI does not support an event."

Other possible problem venues include Sarntal, Italy (XC#2 - May 12-13) and Vars, france (DH#2 - June 16-17).
