April 30/20 12:48 pm - Piccoli To Climb Mont Royal 100 Times in Fundraising Challenge

James Piccoli, Montreal native and member of the Israel Start-Up Nation WorldTour team, has launched a fundraising effort to highlight the efforts of healthcare workers and raise money for personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitizing supplies.

This Saturday, May 2nd, he will ride the 1.8 kilometre Camillien-Houde route up Mont Royal 100 times; the legendary main climb of the WorldTour, 1974 world championships and 1976 Olympics.

His initial $3,000 goal was surpassed quickly, and his current $6,000 target has also been broken on his GoFundMe page.

Piccoli's partner is a nurse working at the Montreal Children's Hospital. He said to Montreal newspaper La Presse, "She works 12 hours a day and I am tired after riding 6 hours."

He is raising funds to donate much needed masks and sanitary supplies (hand sanitizer, disinfectant) to facilities in need around Montreal. Facilities will be selected based on need amongst CHSLDs, hospitals, and NPOs such as homeless shelters.

Groupe Laudie will kick off the donation with:

1000 disposable 3-ply masks
100 KN95 masks
10 cases of 4.5 L concentrated disinfectant (Germinal, manufactured by Groupe Laudie)
10 cases of Soapopular - alcohol free hand sanitizer (COVID-19 authorized by Health Canada)

All funds raised will be used to purchase additional masks/disinfectant for donation at cost price. No profit will be made by Groupe Laudie.
