September 27/20 11:40 am - No World Cup at Mont-Ste-Anne for 2021

Posted by Editoress on 09/27/20

For the first time in the history of the World Cup, Canada and Mont-Ste-Anne will not have a stop on the World Cup circuit in 2021. MSA is the only venue to have been part of the World Cup since it began in 1991, with the exception of the three years it hosted the world championships instead.

The six stops finish with a final round in Snowshoe, West Virginia, which hosted the final in 2019. It is no secret that the UCI has wanted to return to the U.S. market for some time - and Snowshoe did a fine job last year, and will also host the Marathon Worlds. However, it is sad to see the streak end at MSA.

The series begins in late April in Maribor (Slovenia) for a Downhill round, then in May the usual Albstadt (Germany) and Nove Mesto (Czech Republic) XCO rounds will take place. The full schedule is below.

Response from Gestev

The UCI opened is bid process for years 2021 and 2022 earlier this year. The Organizing Committee (OC) applied for both years.

At the end of the process, the OC was informed that it would not be possible to come to Canada for both years, and a one year contract for 2021 was offered.

As it was important for us to have a 2 years contract, especially for our partners, we made the choice to opt for 2022 instead of 2021, with a commitment from UCI to get a contract in 2023.

With the COVID situation, it was also risky to get a one year contract in 2021, without knowing how the situation will evolve, so it was a sage decision to opt for 2022 and 2023.
