Navigators' Mark Walters scored his first victory of the 2001 season with a solo win at the 100Km Eastford Road Race in Mansfield Center, Connecticut. Mark launched an attack at the halfway point, drawing 3 riders with him. On the last of the 6-mile laps of the rolling course, he attacked again to finish alone, 2 minutes ahead of the next closest rider.

The weather may have been cold but the racing was hot as the Maritime road racing season got underway in Charlottetown this past weekend. The three stage race featured a Crit, ITT, and Road Race. Temps were in the 0 to +4 range, and extremely strong winds were a factor in every race. A strong turnout of Canada Games hopefuls, especially from N.S., helped raise rider entries to 50+

The Men's Canada Games race saw Chris Price (Lunenburg/Bike Barn) win the ITT and road race to take the G.C. from a very competitive group of young riders. Women's Canada Games hopeful Laura Kindervater used her strong TT result to just hold off the Jardine sisters for the overall win. Sherry Huybers, also the head coach for the NS Canada Games team, won the overall, while road racing newcomer Ruth Coates managed a strong second in the Senior Women's field.

The Senior Men's race saw Terry Tomlin (Cyclesmith/Trek) control the racing and win all three stages and the overall classification.
