For the final weekend of racing in Trinidad we moved to the Arima Stadium, Arima. Three new athletes arrived just for this weekend, Stephen Alfred (Trinidad) along with two athletes from the USA (G.Blackburn, J.Lebauvre) and these 3 athletes immediately made an impact on the racing.

The 200 Meter time trial, held first in the evening was dominated by Stephen Alfred (Trinidad). The big Trinidadian was the only rider who was able to master the track, and the tremendous headwind blowing down the back straight-away as the riders accelerated into their final 200. All 4 Canadians qualified for the semi final (top 12) with slower than expected times, mostly due to the strong wind. All competitors were slower than the previous two weekends.

In the semi final rounds all 4 Canadians were eliminated, as Stephen Alfred advanced (over Elijia Green , and Jim Fisher), along with Jeff Lebauvre, Clinton Grant (over Tyler Hansen, and Mario Joseph), and the final rider for the semi finals was Garth Blackburn (over Keith Bruneau and Alex Maurais).

The pack races were very different than the previous two weekends, as riders seemed to relax in the pack (on the much more traditional velodrome shape and surface) and bring the speed up. Tyler Hansen scored two top 8 results (5th in the 4 Lap, and 7th in the 30 Lap), and Jim Fisher scored two top 10 results (9th in the 4lap, and 9th in the 30 Lap) in the International Events. Keith Bruneau joined the International pack for the evening finishing in the pack in the events. Alex Maurais, racing in the Category 1 field racked up one more top 5 result with a 5th in the Elimination event.

We have one more night of racing (tonite) on the Arima Velodrome prior to heading home. Alex Maurais will remain in the Carribean for the final weekend of racing for the Barbados International track event.

I will update you all on our last day of racing (tonite) from home on Tuesday, as we are departing this sunny climate, returning to Canada early tomorrow morning.
