Tour of the Gila - New Mexico, USA

We just received preliminary news that Genevieve Jeanson (Rona) has won the 113 km second stage road race of the Tour of the Gila over Kim Bruckner (Saturn). After her first stage win, this extends Jeanson's lead to approximately two and a half minutes. Full results to follow.

Viatel Files for Bankruptcy

Mercury-Viatel co-sponsor Viatel has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy papers in the USA after losing over $1.5 billion US last year. The filing affects U.S. operations, and Viatel says that it will not affect the European division, which is the sponsor of the cycling team. First no Tour entry, now sponsor difficulties - 2001 is not starting well for Mercury...
