Gears Racing Canada Cup #1 - Hardwood Hills, Ontario

Short Track

It was hot, dusty and slippery today at the short track. Slippery? Yes, because of the hay strewn on sections of the course, it was sort of like racing on a freshly waxed floor in places. There were riders who went down in all races, the most notable being Trish Sinclair (Ford-Devinci) in the women's event. She managed to recover to take third behind Chrissy Redden (Subaru-Gary Fisher) and Erica Drew (Speed Queens). Redden steadily picked the pace up through the race, and soloed in for the victory.

In the men's race, Andreas Hestler (Rocky Mountain) and Seamus McGrath (Haro-Lee Dungarees) rode away from the field, with Julian Hines (Gears Racing) alone in third. It looked like it might come down to a last lap sprint between McGrath and Hestler, when the Haro rider was forced to pull out with a little over a lap remaining, after picking up 50 feet of course marking tape in his gears! "I saw it happen and told Seamus, but by then it was too late", said Hestler. "It's too bad, because I would prefer not to win this way." Hines moved into second, and an unknown (at this time) Trek rider was third (#228).

In the Junior race, Rocky Mountain controlled the pace, with Ben Sigston taking the win, his team mate Will Routely third, and sandwiched between them Greg Day (Brodie/EZ-Up/Flash) finishing second.

The cross-country is tomorrow, starting at 1:30 pm EDT, and we will report lap-by-lap from Hardwood.
