After Rounds 2 and 3 of the Track Champions League last weekend in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, Canadians Dylan Bibic and Sarah van Dam are well positioned to finish on the overall podium going into next week's final two rounds in London, UK.
Bibic, the defending champion in the Men's Endurance competition, was the overall leader after Round 1, and remained in that position after the back-to-back rounds in Apeldoorn. Bibic won and finished second in the two Elimination Races, as well as finishing second in the first of the two Scratch Races. He leads Tobias Aagaard Hansen (Denmark) by nine points going into the final two rounds. Third placed Lindsay de Vylder (Belgium) is well back, 31 points in arrears.
"I felt good," said Bibic after Round 3. "The Elimination was probably one of the most competitive [races]. Tobias [Hansen] is a really good rival. We push the best out of each other. Guys are getting faster, Will Tidball is getting back to what I remembered him being, so it's going to be really competitive [next week]. I'll just keep racing for the win, keep trying to win every race."
In the Women's Endurance competition, Sarah van Dam moved up to second overall [from a four-way tie for fourth] after Rounds 2 and 3, with a win and a third place in the two Scratch Races. Van Dam is still well back of leader - and defending champion - Katie Archibald (Great Britain), who has three wins and two second places in six races for a total of 98 points. Sarah van Dam has 71 points, four ahead of Petra Sevcikova (Czechia).
