The first national championships of 2025 begin on Friday with the Elite/Para/Masters Track Championships in Bromont, Quebec. Bromont has hosted the Junior Nationals before - including 2024 - but this is the first time for the Elite event. The area has just been hit by a substantial amount of snow, but, hopefully, that will not impact the running of the event.

"We're thrilled to kick off the 2025 Canadian Track Championships with Elite, Para and Masters athletes in Bromont," said Jen Eaton, Cycling Canada Events and Officials Manager. "Every lap, every pedal stroke and every moment will be a testament to the spirit of competition and fuel the passion for cycling."

The final start list will not be determined until late this evening, but there are over 150 riders attending, including a number of Olympians, such as sprinters Lauriane Genest, Sarah Orban, Nick Wammes, James Hedgcock, Tyler Rorke and Ryan Dodyk, as well as endurance specialists Fiona Majendie, Erin Attwell, Chris Ernst, Carson Mattern, Michael Foley and Mathias Guillemette.

Mattern says that he is very impressed by the venue, calling it an "excellent track", and that "we need more [facilities] like this in Canada".

In the Para events, women's C3 500m world record holder Mel Pemble will race, as will Alex Hayward, bronze medallist in the men's C3 Individual Pursuit.
