Stage 1 Powell Circuit Race
In hot and humid conditions the women racers were trying to acclimatize by doing porta potty intervals. Thus the ambient temperature of the porta potty was roughly 120 degrees, making the outside temperature seem like a cool 100. The race started very aggressively with a barrage of constant attacks from all teams. There were many well represented breaks that seemed as if they could have stayed off, but were brought back.

Autotrader.com, Saturn, Intersports, 800.com, and a few local teams were well represented in numbers compared to Procter&Gamble, Verizon Wireless and Credit Suisse of Boston. All equally hungry to go after the generous prize purse. Although there were constantly different breaks throughout the race a persistent field ultimately kept anything from sticking. With one lap to go the field was together until Clara Hughes (Saturn) launched a decisive attack. The field was left flat footed as she time trialed away to take the win. Unfortunately the sprint was impeded by lapped riders. We don't know any other results as the finish line camera was broken

1. Clara Hughes (Can - Saturn)
2.Laura Van Gilder (Verizon)
3. Nicole Friedman (Credit Suisse)
4. ??
5. Cheryl Binney (Procter & Gamble)

Other Canadians in the field were:
Stacey Spencer (P&G)
Mandy Poitras (800.com)
Gina Grain (800.com)
Nicole Demars (800.com)
Kim Davidge (Saturn)
