We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who helped make out coverage of the 2001 Mountain Bike World Championships possible. Due to the tragic events that happened in New York and Washington last week, we were scrambling to pull everything together, and it would not have happened without the special efforts of the following individuals:

Hank Sydor - Hank was our 'man on the ground' for much of the week. He provided the lap by lap coverage during the Team Relay, the Downhill and the Dual, and made sure that we got all the results we needed quicker than anyone else. At the cross-country, he was always there, helping me out when I was trying to photograph and cover the events. He even provided the bed where I lay my head for a few hours each night. Hank, we could not have done it without you.

Mark Dawson - Mark is Fat Tire Fotos, and you have all seen his superb photography in magazines and on the UCI website. He immediately offered to help out during the Team Relay, and it is his podium shot that we sent in to Canadian Press for all the newspapers.

John Dakin - John was the Press Officer at Vail, and he was foolish enough to provide me with his private cellphone number, so that I could keep in touch and make sure that the information kept flowing - I called him alot . . .

Team Canada - The athletes, coaches and managers all pitched in to help us bring you coverage. Through their personal cellphones and e-mail we were able to keep our readers up-to-date before, during and after the races. Given the pressure they were under, I am always amazed that they take the extra time to patiently deal with my constant requests. Particular kudos to Roland, Chrissy and team manager Warren Lister.

My travel agent, Bev - This lady dealt with a dozen calls a day from me as I booked and re-booked flights all week. She managed to get onto the first flight that actually got through to Denver, and the first flight that got back.

Our Sponsors - Without Rocky Mountain, CompuTrainer and Peak Centre we would not have been able to do what we did. These companies are in it to support the sport.

To all of the above, our heartfelt thanks. It is because of your assistance that we were able to do what we did. We know our readers appreciate it, because we set new records for traffic on Sunday - 60,000 hits/hour during the men's race! We promise to continue to work to bring you the most complete coverage possible.

Rob Jones & Tracy Harkness
