Gears Racing Team 2002

Toronto, Canada, October 18, 2001: Mr. Mark S. Bonham, Chairman, and Mr. Kevin Wallace, President, of the Gears Racing Institute ("GRI") are today very pleased to announce the Gears Racing Mountain Bike Team for the year 2002. The complete list of racers signed to the team to date is listed below.

"We are very excited about the composition of the Gears Racing Team for 2002", stated Kevin Wallace. "The returning racers, and the new racers we have signed on, are of the highest quality and represent some of the best mountain bike athletes in Canada today. Our pledge as a racing organization is to give them the best racing support needed to give them the confidence required to meet their individual goals in mountain bike racing."

In forming the team, management took the objective of attracting seasoned and experienced athletes to act as professional spokespeople for the team, while at the same time filling a role as mentor to the younger up-and-coming racers. "For example, we have attracted the quality and experience of Trish Sinclair to match with the exciting group of Kiara Bisaro, Claire Hall-Patch, Sue Trimble, and Danelle Kabush on the woman's side of the team," Kevin stated. "On the men's side, we have the experience of Mathieu Toulouse, Julian Hine, and Greg Reain to work with rising superstars Ricky Federau, Adam Coates, Ryan Savoy, Frederic Bussieres, and Michael Dennis. These are very powerful combinations that will not only enhance the competencies of each of the racers, but also help to grow a group of quality mountain bike racers to represent Canada for next year and well into the future."

"This strategy sets us apart from many of the other trade teams in Canada", added Mark Bonham. "As a non-profit organization, with a capital base that provides its operating income, we are dedicated to developing Olympic-quality athletes for Canada through a broad development program. Rather than limiting our support to a few superstar racers, we have attempted to build a broad mix of experience and rising talent. In this context, we welcome these athletes into the GRI family and will do everything we can to provide them with the support they need to continue building on the superb results of other Canadian mountain bikers."

The GRI will shortly announce the composition of the Gears Racing Road Team, Gears Racing Adventure Racing Team, and the Gears Racing Triathlon Team. The Gears Racing Institute is a specialist foundation created to identify and develop world-class competitive mountain bikers for Canada. The entry of mountain bike racing to the Olympic Games has created the need for a defined and progressive development program to encourage young Canadians to pursue the sport as a competitive option in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is anticipated that the success of the program and its participants will instill a sense of national pride and interest in the sport of mountain biking and cycling in general.
