Ice Bike 2002
Courtesy Rob Nagy - Icebike Organizer
The 4th annual Icebike mountain bike event sponsored by Woodcock Cycleworks will take place on the 3rd of February, 2002. The Icebike is held at The Forks and along the banks and ice surfaces of the Red River. The combination of snow, hills, slick ice, and hardpacked walkways makes for a formidable challenge to mountain bikers of all skill levels.
The Icebike has enjoyed constantly increasing participant numbers, from 40 in the first event to 135 in the 2001 event. The participants range from hardcore racers, couriers, recreational riders to first time winter riders. The venue at The Forks permits spectator viewing not normally available at summer mountain bike races. Along with winter conditions go spectacular slips, slides, and crashes. Fortunately the snowcovered ground is far more forgiving than bare dirt.
