Hughes Qualifies for Salt Lake

Clara Hughes finished second to Kristina Groves in the 3000m race at the Canada Cup on December 28th. More importantly, both finished more than 5 seconds below the national qualifying standard of 4:13.75 (Groves in 4:08.46 and Hughes in 4:08.61).

While both have qualified for the Salt Lake Olympics, they will have to wait until the World Cup in Heerenveen (Ned) to find out how many positions Canada has for the Olympics. The World Cup is held January 11-13.


Midweek Team

The Midweek Club is pleased to announce the formation of a senior elite road team fo the 2002 season. Team members will include: David Fry, Bruce Krip, Peter Morse (captain) and Kevin Speacht. Additional riders may be recruited in the new year.

Several potential sponsors have indicated their intention to support the team . The team will contest races in Ontario, Quebec and the Northern USA.
